Thatched Roof Netting

Netting is often installed on a thatched roof as a protective measure to prevent birds and other animals from damaging the thatch. Birds, in particular, are attracted to thatched roofs as a source of nesting material, and their pecking and scratching can cause significant damage to the thatch. Netting is a humane and effective way to deter birds and protect the thatch from damage.

Ideally, netting should be installed on a new thatched roof during the construction process. This ensures that the netting is securely attached to the roof structure and can effectively prevent birds from accessing the thatch. The netting is typically made of a durable, UV-stabilized plastic material that is resistant to weather and wear.

If netting is not installed during the initial construction of a thatched roof, don’t worry! It can still be retrofitted onto your existing roof. However, this process can be more challenging and may require some remedial roof carpentry to ensure that the netting is properly attached to the roof structure.
