THATCHING FOR OVER 26 YEARS

About Dan

Two decades of thatch

My Story

My thatching journey began as an eager 17-year-old apprentice at Knuston Hall College in Northamptonshire, where I was honoured to receive the prestigious George Dray Memorial Cup, given to the most promising apprentice.

Following my apprenticeship, I honed my craft as a Master Thatcher in the scenic New Forest region. In 2011, my family and I decided to embark on a new chapter by relocating to Whimple, East Devon. Since then, I have continued to practice my beloved art form with the same passion and precision that I first developed as an apprentice.

Master thatcher since 2007

My Specialisms

As a skilled thatcher, I specialise in creating beautiful and intricate ornamental ridges. With years of experience in using materials such as water reed, combed wheat reed, and long straw, I have even tried my hand at thatching a summer house with heather.

In 2007, I was honoured to join the esteemed National Society of Master Thatchers, a testament to the high standards of work that I consistently strive for. I am also a member of the Devon and Cornwall Master Thatchers Association. I take immense pride in creating beautiful and practical roofs, and am always happy to provide references or share my portfolio of recent projects. Trust me to bring my passion and expertise to every job, no matter how big or small.
